The Mary Zepeda Native Garden
is a collaboration between three not-for-profit organizations in Pilsen - The Federacion de Clubes Michoacános en Illinois (FEDECMI), Pilsen Rights and Reform Organization (PERRO), and El Hogar Del Nino Daycare.
The garden was developed to...
- Increase the quality of green space in Pilsen neighborhood.
- Act as a safe a play area for children.
- Create and facilitate educational activities and outdoor workshops that connect local residents to nature, the conservation of monarch butterfly habitats, and to provide public outreach and education on environmental conservation practices.
- Demonstrate the beauty and benefits of growing native plants in gardens (less maintenance and they retain more water) to the community.
